SFM

SFM (Sum Frequency Mixing) is the term describing the process where two incident photons with frequencies (w1, w2) are converted into one photon with frequency w1+w2. One can see that SHG is only a particular case of SFM (w1 = w2).

In practice, this process is used primarily for Third Harmonic Generation (THG) where w2 = 2w1. Most solid-state UV lasers work according to this principle and Cristal Laser has now several years of experience in the manufacture of THG crystals and in the choice of suitable AR-coatings.
